Teaching

I have extensive teaching experience across all levels in Higher Education, and was awarded Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in 2021. I continue to mentor and assess applicants for Fellowship through the University of Exeter’s ASPIRE Professional Recognition Pathway.

Below is an overview of my teaching experience in Higher Education.

Medieval French

Between 2020 and 2026, I designed and delivered an introduction to medieval French through the CHASE Doctoral Training Partnership. The course (which I continued to refine over six cohorts) gave Master’s and PhD students a space to gain confidence, experience, and knowledge with the language, and culminated in students delivering their own sessions based on their in-progress research.

History

I have taught at all levels in the University of Exeter’s Department of Archaeology and History, and have devised, convened, and taught modules from first-year survey level (Understanding the Medieval and Early Modern World) to third-year dissertation supervision. My first-year ‘sources and skills’ module, Medieval, Manufactured?, introduced students to concepts of public history and medievalism through topics including Romanticism, chivalric imagery in the First and Second World Wars, and recreations of ‘medieval’ education in Shrek the Third.

Modern Languages

As Lecturer in French, I have taught French language at first- and second-year levels, as well as convening optional modules (Music in Medieval Europe and Music, Poetry and Society in Late-Medieval France.
